PrEP is short for Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis. It involves the use of prescription medication by people who are HIV negative to reduce their risk of HIV infection. PrEP is recommended by UNAIDS for communities at high risk of contracting HIV, but it remains difficult to obtain in Australia, where much of the debate continues to focus on whether it might encourage condomless sex.
